The administrative works of postgraduate research studies in the University of Ruhuna was handled by the “Postgraduate Unit” until the middle of November 2011, and Prof. W.G.D. Dharmaratna was serving as the Director of Postgraduate Graduate Unit. During his period of Director, Prof. Dharmaratna with the consultation of the Vice Chancellor worked hard to uplifit the status of the Posrgraduate Unit. As a result, the University of Ruhuna was successful to get its 8^th Faculty as the University Grants Commission has approved the proposal forwarded by the University of Ruhuna to establish the ‘Faculty of Graduate Studies’ in Ruhuna University
